Pleated bag or cartridge

Why a high-temperature pleated bag cannot be treated as a standard cartridge and how to verify a retrofit before upgrading a baghouse.

CRITICAL DISTINCTION

A pleated bag is a separate technology

It fits a baghouse tube sheet and may use a snap-band, flange, threaded bush or PU ends. It may use high-temperature substrates (aramid, PPS, fibreglass), but pitch, pulse system, pleats and dust must be checked. A pleated surface alone does not make it a standard cartridge.

This site limits a standard cartridge filter to a maximum of 135 °C. The higher values below apply only to specifically engineered pleated bags and require a complete-assembly datasheet. Keeping the categories separate removes a hazardous temperature-data error.

MEDIA

Temperature is confirmed for the complete assembly

The table gives category guidance, not universal ratings. Adhesive, end caps, gasket, cage, acids, alkalis, oxygen and hydrolysis can reduce the allowable duty.

Media

Typical guidance
Typically 110–120 °C; selected assemblies to 135 °C
Typical duty
Dry abrasive dust and frequent cleaning
Main limitation
Hydrolysis, chemistry and end materials
APPLICABILITY CHECK

When a retrofit genuinely delivers value

A larger nominal area does not guarantee better performance: tightly packed pleats may clean poorly with sticky or coarse dust.

Q&A

Frequently asked questions

Can every bag be replaced by a pleated element?

No. Tube sheet, pitch, pulse system, dust, temperature and aerodynamics must be checked. A conventional long bag may remain more reliable in some duties.

Why cannot 200 °C be applied to a standard cartridge?

Because it may be a fibre-only limit, while a standard cartridge is also limited by adhesive, end caps, cage and gasket. This site sets 135 °C as the maximum for a standard cartridge.

Why is a pleated bag treated separately?

It fits a baghouse tube sheet and follows different geometry and cleaning checks. Its high-temperature media ratings cannot be automatically applied to a standard cartridge.

What is needed to make an equivalent?

A sample or drawing, media, temperature, chemistry, end dimensions, gasket, airflow direction and pulse-cleaning data.
