GUIDE

PES, aramid, PPS, P84, fibreglass and PTFE

A filter fabric selection matrix by temperature, gas chemistry, moisture, abrasion and specialist finishes.

Suitable media by gas temperature

5 / 7 suitable media
  • Polyester (PES)≈130 °CCost-effective, strong and versatile
  • Antistatic PES≈130 °CCharge dissipation with correct grounding
  • Aramid (Nomex type)≈200 °CMechanical and thermal resistance
  • PPS≈190 °CResists acids, alkalis and hydrolysis
  • P84≈240 °CHigh fibre area and good cake release
  • Fibreglass≈250–260 °CHigh temperature resistance
  • PTFE / ePTFE membrane≈250–260 °CChemical resistance and surface filtration

Limits are typical; final selection follows chemistry, moisture, dew point and peak temperatures.

BAG MEDIA

Filter fabric selection matrix

Temperatures are typical guidance. Confirm the final choice against the exact datasheet, gas chemistry, moisture, temperature peaks and cleaning method.

Media
01 / 07Polyester (PES)
Typical limit
≈130 °C
Strength
Cost-effective, strong and versatile
Limit / application
Hydrolysis with heat and moisture; cement, wood, dry duties

An antistatic finish does not replace explosion protection: for combustible dust, verify Kst, Pmax, minimum ignition energy and grounding separately.

CHECKLIST

What the selection takes into account

  • The exact fabric datasheet: continuous and peak temperature limit
  • Gas chemistry: acids, alkalis, hydrolysis and oxidation (O₂ control)
  • Moisture and dew point — below it blinding and corrosion begin
  • A/C ratio (gas flow divided by cloth area, m/min) and the pulse cleaning regime
  • Abrasion, cage condition and cleaning method (gentle cleaning for fibreglass)
  • Specialist finishes: antistatic media, PTFE/ePTFE membrane
TROUBLESHOOTING

How to recognise the wrong media

Signs include rapid ageing, shrinkage, hydrolysis, burns, blinding, high residual ΔP, poor cake release or unstable emissions. Analyse the element and the duty history.

With high baghouse ΔP, first check the gauge, compressed air, valves, hopper and dew point: assess the media only after removing the overload and restoring cleaning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which files should be attached to an enquiry?

The specification, datasheet, OEM reference, drawing, nameplate and mounting photos, process analysis, duty map and recent ΔP, emissions or filtrate data.

Can the media be changed in an existing system?

Yes — after auditing the housing, fan, hydraulics, controls, site and actual duty. Media, compartments, the pulse system or instrumentation can be replaced.
