GUIDE

Strainer, cartridge, separator or coalescer

Filter type follows the contaminant and the protected equipment. A micron rating alone does not guarantee correct selection.

GAS FILTRATION

Natural gas filtration stages

Type
01 / 06Strainer / Y-filter
Guide rating
100–500 μm
Contaminant
Rust, scale, sand and construction debris
Application
Pressure reduction stations, upstream of regulator and meter
SELECTION

Five key parameters

The specification states the following for every stage.

01DN / PNSize and pressure
02Q, Nm³/hFlow and turndown
03μmRating and contaminant
04ΔPClean and alarm
05ExZone and design
INPUT DATA

What natural and fuel gas needs

  • DN, PN, operating/design pressure and flow
  • Dust, rust, sand, condensate, water and oil
  • Rating, clean/final ΔP and temperature
  • Housing material, hazardous area, drain and indicator
TROUBLESHOOTING

If gas filter ΔP rises quickly

  1. 01Probable cause

Liquid, an element that is too fine, a rust surge, high flow.

  2. 02Check first

Drain, element, actual flow, clean ΔP, flow pattern.

  3. 03Action

Remove the source and review the staged arrangement.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which filter is needed upstream of a gas burner?

A 10–50 μm cartridge is common, but the burner or valve manufacturer and the project set the requirement. Verify DN, PN, flow, ΔP, temperature, drainage and contamination.

What data is needed for preliminary selection?

At minimum: flow, temperature, pressure, contaminant composition and loading, target result, duty, allowable ΔP and a photo or drawing of the installation point.
